Meridian Kiwanis Club of Columbus has adopted Book Express as a signature project.  Collection boxes are being placed at all Kiwanis events and in businesses around Columbus where people are urged to donate new or gently used children’s books. Kiwanis members will gather the books and bring them to Book Express.   Kiwanis members also volunteer with Book Buddies and encourage all adults to spend time reading to children.  If you would like a collection box at your business or event, or need to schedule a pick-up of books, click here contact us or call: Dave 812-350-2454 or Jeff 812-603-6461
Book Express is a literacy outreach program that began in 2007. A classroom on wheels, the literacy bus travels to neighborhoods and community programs to share ideas/activities/materials that support parents in helping their children to become readers. The bus also makes appearances at many local events such as the Bartholomew County 4-H Fair, Family Fest at Mill Race Park, CYD Drive-in Movie Night, Hope Old-Fashioned Independence Day Celebration and more. Free books are distributed at each event and neighborhood stops.Volunteers can help manage the bus at local fairs, festivals and other special events. Duties include handing out free books to children and promoting the joy of reading. Shifts vary by event. If you would like more information about the Literacy Task Force or Book Express go to:   http://www.bartholomewreads.org/
