Organizing tabs at Columbus East HS
Since 2002 the Meridian Kiwanis Club and the Key Clubs from Columbus East and Columbus North High Schools have been conducting an annual Pop Tab Collection Contest. All the proceeds have been donated to the Ronald McDonald House in Indianapolis to provide housing for families who have critically ill children being treated at Riley Hospital for Children. In these 17 years we have collected over 37 million tabs and raised $16,598 for the Ronald McDonald House. The winning school gets a free visit from Ronald McDonald and the top 3 schools get their name added to the traveling trophies, which are kept at their school until the end of the next contest. Each of the top 3 schools and one school drawn at random, also receive Happy Meals for one classroom courtesy of the Andy Ball McDonald’s Franchise.
