14th Annual Kiwanis Duck Splash

October 14, 2017, 12:00pm - October 14, 2017, 1:00pm

Make a Splash and Support Your Community Every year, thousands gather in downtown Columbus to experience the Ethnic Expo. But there’s another event the same weekend you’ll want to have marked on your calendars: the Kiwanis’ Incredible Duck Splash at Mill Race Park. Bring the whole family! From 12 to 2 p.m. on Oct. 14, the Kiwanis clubs in Columbus will provide free entertainment including a bounce house, photo opportunities with Star Wars characters, remote controlled boats (courtesy of Indy Admirals), and a magic show performed by Don Miller at 1 p.m. Also available will be Walgreens health tests and coupons for a Dilly Bar from the downtown Columbus Dairy Queen. The big draw at the Duck Splash, however, is the release of thousands of rubber ducks at 12:45 p.m. into Round Lake. Some of the ducks will be dropped from the Columbus Helicopter courtesy of Jim Ogilvie — a display kids are sure to enjoy. All adopted ducks turned loose in the lake will compete for more than $12,000 in cash and prizes as “Duckinator boats” select ducks to determine winners. One lucky duck will have ten chances to win a new car or $50,000. Winners will be announced at 2 p.m. and need not be present to win. Ducks are available for adoption from any local Kiwanis member, at Midwest Computer Solutions (3028 State St., Columbus, IN 47201), and from any participating “Duck Buddy” youth organization listed at www.kducks.com. One duck costs $5 to adopt, and discount packages are available for multiple adoptions: * Kwack Pack (five ducks for $20) * Baker’s Dozen (13 ducks for $50) * Mini-Flock (20 ducks for $75) * Flock (30 ducks for $100). All proceeds benefit local youth organizations, which receive 80 percent of the funds raised through duck adoptions. Additional proceeds after expenses help support community service projects conducted by the Evening Kiwanis, Golden K Kiwanis, and Meridian Kiwanis clubs of Columbus.
